Terms of Service
Last updated 20 October 2026. These terms cover the Pack Lingo app for iPhone and this website.
The short version. Pack Lingo is a Japanese learning app. You need to be 13 or older. A subscription renews by itself until you cancel it, and you cancel it in your Apple account settings rather than by asking us. Apple handles the money and Apple handles refunds. Your collection is yours and you can delete it whenever you like.
1. The agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and LEGAL NAME OF OPERATOR ("we", "us"), the operator of Pack Lingo. By downloading or using the app you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
This agreement is between you and us only. It is not an agreement with Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its contents.
2. Where Pack Lingo is available
Pack Lingo is offered in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It is not offered in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom.
3. Who may use Pack Lingo
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are between 13 and the age of majority where you live, you may use Pack Lingo only with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these terms on your behalf.
The app asks for your birth month and year once in order to establish this. Answering it falsely is a breach of these terms. If we find out that an account belongs to someone under 13, we delete it immediately.
4. What the app does, and what it does not promise
Pack Lingo teaches Japanese vocabulary and kana through collectible card packs and spaced review. We work hard on the accuracy of the Japanese in it, including the audio, and we correct mistakes when we find them or when you report them. Even so, no learning app is a qualified teacher, and we do not promise any particular level of fluency, any exam result, or that a given card is suitable for a given situation. Japanese politeness levels in particular depend on context the app cannot see.
We may add, change, or retire collections, cards, and features. We will not take away content you have paid to access while your subscription is active without offering something comparable in its place.
5. Your account
You can use the app anonymously. If you link it to Sign in with Apple or to an email address, keep access to that method, because it is how you prove the account is yours. Tell us promptly at support@packlingo.app if you think someone else has got into your account.
One person, one account. Do not share an account or a subscription with other people, and do not resell access.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings in the app. Deletion removes your collection and your progress. We cannot bring them back afterwards, and deleting your account does not by itself cancel a subscription bought through Apple, which you cancel separately as described below.
6. Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation
Parts of Pack Lingo require a paid subscription. Everything in this section is worth reading before you buy.
- The price and the billing period are shown in the app before you confirm, in your local currency, on the screen where you subscribe. That screen is the authoritative statement of what you are agreeing to pay.
- Payment is taken by Apple and charged to your Apple account at confirmation of purchase. We never see or hold your card details.
- Subscriptions renew automatically. Your Apple account is charged for another period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You cancel through Apple, not through us. Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Pack Lingo, then Cancel. We cannot cancel a subscription for you, because we do not control the billing.
- Cancelling stops the next charge. It does not shorten the period you have already paid for, and you keep access until that period ends.
- If we offer a free trial, its length and terms are stated on the subscribe screen. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends or it turns into a paid subscription. Starting a trial may make you ineligible for another one later, which is Apple's rule and not ours.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policy, which you can use at reportaproblem.apple.com. We have no ability to issue a refund for an Apple purchase. If you believe something went wrong, write to us anyway and we will help you make the case.
- Prices can change. If we raise the price of a subscription you already hold, Apple will ask you to agree before it takes effect, and your subscription will not renew at the higher price unless you do.
- Restoring a purchase. If you reinstall the app or move to a new iPhone, use Restore Purchases on the subscribe screen. It works without signing in.
Nothing here limits any statutory right of withdrawal or cancellation you may have under consumer law where you live. Those rights apply in addition to this section, and for a purchase made through Apple they are exercised with Apple.
7. How you may and may not use it
Pack Lingo is for your own personal learning. Please do not:
- copy, scrape, or bulk-extract the card content, the audio, or the artwork, or republish any of it, including in another app or deck;
- reverse engineer the app, or call our servers from anything other than the app itself;
- interfere with the app's economy, for instance by trying to grant yourself packs, cards, or a subscription you have not earned or bought;
- use the app in a way that breaks the law where you are, or that interferes with other people's use of it.
If you do any of this we may suspend or close your account. Where the breach is minor and fixable we will tell you first.
8. Who owns what
The app, its design, its artwork, Packy, the Pack Lingo name, the card layouts, the audio recordings, and the selection and arrangement of the content are ours or our licensors'. You get a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple's App Store Terms of Service.
The Japanese language itself belongs to nobody. Individual words, readings, and ordinary dictionary meanings are facts, and we claim nothing over them.
Your learning data is yours. The app can export it for you, and deleting your account deletes it.
9. Support and maintenance
We provide support at support@packlingo.app and we aim to answer within a few business days. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to furnish any maintenance or support services for the app.
10. Warranties
The app is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind beyond those that cannot be excluded by law. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error free, or that every piece of content is free of mistakes.
In the event of any failure of the app to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty are our responsibility and not Apple's.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Where you deal with us as a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected. In particular, nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies the consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law, the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, or equivalent Canadian provincial consumer legislation, where those apply to you.
11. Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, for lost profits, or for lost data beyond what we can restore. Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty US dollars.
None of this limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
12. Claims, and Apple's position
We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims from you or a third party relating to the app or your use of it, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling, and discharging any third-party claim that the app or your use of it infringes that party's intellectual property rights.
You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not listed on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You will comply with all applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the app.
Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and have the right to enforce them against you.
13. Ending the agreement
You may stop using Pack Lingo at any time, and delete your account from Settings in the app. We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the app. If we discontinue the app while you hold a paid subscription, we will say so with reasonable notice and will not charge you for a period you cannot use.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters to you, we will update the date at the top and tell you in the app before it takes effect. Carrying on using the app after that means you accept the new version. If you do not, stop using the app and cancel any subscription.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of STATE, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules, and the courts of COUNTY AND STATE have exclusive jurisdiction, except where the law of your own country or state of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings there. If you are a consumer in Canada, Australia or New Zealand, nothing here deprives you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your place of residence.
